Introduction

The Department of Labour, Library which consists of written, printed and audiovisual mediums is the only specialized research library in Sri Lanka covering the subject of field of labour.

This is also consisted with alot updated valuable labour related books and documentaries and also with a precious labour museum.

It is located on the ground floor of the Labour Secretarian building and is open from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on working days for readers.

Membership

All the Officers in the Department of Labour, Ministry of Labour & foreign employment and its affiliated institutions and Employees’ Trust Fund Board are the permanent members of the library.

✔ Enhancing scholars to engage in analysis and researches regarding law and labour, social, economic and political

✔ Collection of paper cuttings

✔ Current contents service

✔ Inter-library loan service

✔ Providing data and information, publications among the inter branches of Department of Labour

✔ Furnishing departmental publications with the general public

✔ Maintaining a special collection of knowledge regarding labour related ordinances, acts, amendments, extra ordinary gazettes and wages board decisions

✔ Allowing the general public to visit the museum to educate them self regarding historical incidents related to labour activities with a collection of antique ornaments and a collection of photographs.
