The main aim of this division is to implement the laws related to the employment of women, young persons and children. Accordingly, the following Acts are being executed by this division.
Main functions of the division
✔ Implementation of activities in order to eliminate Child Labour
– Conducting awareness programs for public officials and the general public.
– Monitoring of Department officer’s contribution towards district and divisional Child Development Committees.
– Directing the child labour victims into a formal education system.
✔ Execution of law on maternity benefits to private and semi-government sector employees.
✔ Execution of law related to the employment of women and young persons
– Conducting raids on Child Labour and night inspections.
– Regulation of issuing night work approvals to industrial undertaking.
– Compliant investigations on employment of women, young persons and children.
– Conducting awareness programmes on the law.
– Conducting Training of trainers (TOT) programmes for public officers to uplift the social responsibility towards the rights of women and children
✔ Conduct special programmes for enhancing female employment.
✔ Commemoration of International Women’s Day, World Day Against Child Labour and International Children’s Day.
✔ Maintaining Hostel facilities at reasonable rates for the female employees of the Koggala and Katunayake export processing zones.
✔ Conducting surveys on working women and children.
