Provident Fund Act No. 15 of 1958 established the Employees&#8217; Provident Fund with the primary objective of providing the employees of the private and semi-public sectors of Sri Lanka with a good economic status in retirement.\u00a0The administration of this fund is done by the Commissioner General of Labour\/Department of Labor and its funds are held by the Monetary Board\/Central Bank of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has managed to keep the annual interest rate of the fund higher than 10% in the past years.\u00a0And this interest is continuously added to the member&#8217;s balance as interest.\u00a0At least 12% of the employee&#8217;s monthly gross earnings is contributed by the employer and 8% by the employee to the Employees&#8217; Provident Fund, so every month as much as 1\/5th of the employee&#8217;s gross earnings is used to secure the member&#8217;s retirement.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the Employees&#8217; Provident Fund has become the largest social security system in Sri Lanka.\u00a0The number of active employees who pay contributions to the fund increases to 2 million and the total value of the fund is about 2 trillion rupees.\u00a0Central Bank of Sri Lanka data has shown that in 2017, employee provident fund income was 133 billion rupees and 117 billion rupees were spent to issue benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Fund benefit payment has been made easier for the members to get benefits through decentralization, and under the method of re-registration of the members of the fund, efforts are being made to identify the beneficiaries correctly and to create an atmosphere that can minimize the inconveniences that may occur during the payment of benefits.<\/p>\n<div id=\"gtx-trans\" style=\"position: absolute; Provident Fund, a whopping 1\/5 of your total earnings every month and the high interest added to it will be used to secure your retirement.<\/p>\n<p>So you,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Whether employed as permanent, apprentice, temporary or casual<\/li>\n<li>Whether paid on a piece-rate, commission, contract or piece-of-work basis<\/li>\n<li>Whether you get paid monthly, semi-monthly, weekly or daily<\/li>\n<li>Even if he is an employee who resumes work after receiving S.A.A. benefit money once<\/li>\n<li>Even if he is a foreigner employed in this country<\/li>\n<li>Even if he is an employee of organizations run for charity and social service activities with more than 10 employees<\/li>\n<li>Whether working at any level from laborer ranks to management ranks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Register as a member of the fund.\u00a0For that,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fill in forms A,B,H, get certified by your employer and hand over to the nearest labor office.\u00a0This should be done within a fortnight of joining the service.<\/li>\n<li>Check whether the registration forms have been submitted to the Labor Department by the employee within a fortnight of joining the service, and whether the Labor Department has registered it.<\/li>\n<li>Be careful if your employees send your contributions to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on time.\u00a0It is your employee right.<\/li>\n<li>Take the B sheet and keep it safe when leaving the workplace.\u00a0It will make you comfortable while availing the benefits.<\/li>\n<li>If the ABH form has not been registered at the time of your claim, the service certificate obtained by the institution or the completed ABH form can be forwarded to the payment section by the district labor office where the institution belongs with a note that the details of the RN have been entered.<\/li>\n<li>ABH sheet is not registered at the time of your benefits, complete letter of damages in addition to main documents at the time of inactivity of the institution, along with any proof (letter of appointment, service certificates, salary slips etc.) to prove that you have worked in the institution. Submit to Payment Section.<\/li>\n<li>You can cancel the nominations made to your fund balance and make a re-nomination by filling up Forms I, J respectively and submitting them to the nearest labor office attested by the employees.<\/li>\n<li>If you are leaving the workplace,\u00a0inform the nearest labor office by completing Form\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epf.lk\/assets\/library\/form_e.pdf\">E within a fortnight of the end of employment.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you want to add your personal accounts, fill Form\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epf.lk\/assets\/library\/form_g.pdf\">G<\/a>\u00a0and submit it to the nearest labor office.<\/li>\n<li>If you have contributed to the fund for more than 10 years, your S.A.A.\u00a0If the balance is above Rs.300,000\/- and you are an employee who is currently contributing to the fund, you can avail pre-retirement benefits of 30% of your fund balance for housing or medical reasons.\u00a0This benefit can be availed for the second time after 10 years of first availment.<\/li>\n<li>You can get a home loan from the following banks by pledging employee provident funds.\u00a0Further information can be obtained from the nearest labor office.<\/li>\n<li>State Mortgage and Investment Bank<\/li>\n<li>Housing Development Finance Corporation<\/li>\n<li>Bank of Ceylon<\/li>\n<li>National Savings Bank<\/li>\n<li>People&#8217;s Bank<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Yours truly.\u00a0To get the balance of the account online, fill\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epf.lk\/assets\/library\/member_registration_form.pdf\">the Registration Form (New)<\/a>\u00a0and send it to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.<\/li>\n<li>Apart from this, your balance can also be known through the KIOSKS machines spread in the district labor offices across the country.<\/li>\n<li>For that and to get your benefit money efficiently and to reduce wrong payments, give your fingerprints and re-register in the fund under the National Identification Number.<\/li>\n<li>You can complete Form K under the following reasons and get full benefits of the fund.<\/li>\n<li>50 years of age for female \/ 55 years of age for male and retired from service<\/li>\n<li>If a woman quits service within 3 months prior to marriage or within 5 years of marriage<\/li>\n<li>If you are permanently incapacitated for work, get Form M certified by a Government Medical Officer<\/li>\n<li>If going abroad for permanent residence<\/li>\n<li>If appointed to a pensionable position in the Government, Provincial Public Service and Local Government Institutions<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the event of conversion\u00a0<\/strong><strong>of the business entity in which you worked into\u00a0<\/strong><strong>a public corporation\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\/\u00a0<\/strong><strong>authority\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\/\u00a0<\/strong><strong>board or the public corporation\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\/\u00a0<\/strong><strong>authority\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\/ board into a business entity\u00a0<\/strong><strong>or in the event of closing down of\u00a0<\/strong><strong>the public corporation\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\/\u00a0<\/strong><strong>authority\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\/\u00a0<\/strong><strong>board or retrenchment of redundant\u00a0<\/strong><strong>employees<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If the member dies, his heirs will be able to complete form L and get the benefits.<\/li>\n<li>To recover unpaid balances below Rs.10,000\/-, you can complete the part payment form through the Central Bank if your bank details are not available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_tta-panel\" id=\"1687005110719-1b9beaac-b91d\" data-vc-content=\".vc_tta-panel-body\"><div class=\"vc_tta-panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"vc_tta-panel-title vc_tta-controls-icon-position-left\"><a href=\"#1687005110719-1b9beaac-b91d\" data-vc-accordion data-vc-container=\".vc_tta-container\"><span class=\"vc_tta-title-text\">If you are an employer...<\/span><i class=\"vc_tta-controls-icon vc_tta-controls-icon-plus\"><\/i><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div class=\"vc_tta-panel-body\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element  wpb_animate_when_almost_visible wpb_fadeInRightBig fadeInRightBig\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><strong>Be a fair employer that secures your employee&#8217;s future.\u00a0For that,<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As soon as one employee joins the service under you, S.A.A.\u00a0Register complete form\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epf.lk\/assets\/library\/form_d.pdf\">D<\/a>\u00a0to pay<\/li>\n<li>Credit your employees&#8217; contributions to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka using Form\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epf.lk\/assets\/library\/form_c.pdf\">C<\/a>\u00a0on or before the 3rd working day of the month following the relevant month.<\/li>\n<li>If crediting of contributions is missed on the due date, you will have to pay surcharge as follows.<\/li>\n<li>A surcharge of 5% of the subscription amount if the delay is up to 10 days<\/li>\n<li>A surcharge of 15% of the subscription amount if the delay is from 10 days to one month<\/li>\n<li>A surcharge of 20% of the subscription amount if the delay is from 1 month to 3 months<\/li>\n<li>A surcharge of 30% of the subscription amount if the delay is 3 months to 6 months<\/li>\n<li>A surcharge of 40% of the subscription amount if the delay is 6 months to 12 months<\/li>\n<li>If the delay is more than 12 months, a surcharge of 50% of the subscription amount is also payable.<\/li>\n<li>If you wish to pay your employee a contribution rate higher than the approved minimum contribution rate, fill up Form\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epf.lk\/assets\/library\/form_o.pdf\">O<\/a>\u00a0and submit it to the nearest labor office.<\/li>\n<li>In case of transfer of contributions from an approved Provident Fund or Contributory Pension Scheme to the Employees&#8217;
